New Additions to the Music Collection

We’ve had a number of new items come in as we near the end of the year. Many people aren’t aware of the extent of the Grosvenor Room’s score and songbook collection, so I thought some recent works would be a good example of how this collection is still growing.

First, from Hollywood, selections from the soundtracks to 2022’s Top Gun: Maverick, and this year’s The Little Mermaid live-action remake.

If you caught the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, you might have seen the cast of the (recently Broadway-premiered) Back To The Future musical perform a couple numbers (and there’s a video!). We’ve got copies of the songbook waiting here in the Grosvenor room for anyone feeling musical-theater inclined.

And while our selection of classical works is one of the more comprehensive parts of the collection, there’s always something we don’t seem to have: in this instance, it’s a copy of Dvořák’s The Water Goblin.

We try to get a broad variety of what people might be interested in–if you have requests, please let us know! And finally…

A small selection of music from Studio Ghibli productions, including the score to My Neighbor Totoro and the Spirited Away Suite, based on the original soundtrack to the titular movie, all composed by Joe Hisaishi. I’m especially excited about these ones–“Merry Go Round Of Life” from Howl’s Moving Castle (in Ghibli’s Best Stories, a collection of Hisaishi’s Ghibli work) is an all time personal favorite. All of these are available to take out from the Central Library, or to request from your local branch.
